The France Under-21 international has impressed this season and wants to remain where he is, with Champions League football on the agenda

Rennes full-back Faitout Maouassa is happy to hear of interest from Manchester United, but insists he is not looking to leave his current club.

Maouassa has enjoyed an impressive season for Rennes, prompting reports that United are considering a £10 million ($12m) approach when the transfer window reopens.

Newcastle have also been linked with the 21-year-old, who is capable of playing anywhere down the left-hand side of the pitch, but has mostly caught the eye in defence.

However, with Rennes set to play in the Champions League next season following the decision made to cancel the 2019-20 Ligue 1 campaign, Maouassa sees no reason to move on.

“Obviously, with the season that we have done, I want to say that I think we are all a bit sought after,” Maouassa told TF1.

“But for me personally, I feel good at Rennes. This year, there will be European football, there are not really any reasons for me to leave as I feel really good here.”

Regarding the reports that the Red Devils have been scouting him this season with a view to a potential bid, he said: “Honestly, it does not affect me.

“It is nice. Of course, it is really nice to see that clubs like that are interested in me. It is a real source of joy.

“But as I have said I feel really good at Rennes. I feel good and I am keeping my feet on the ground.”

How much transfer activity will take place across European football when the next window opens remains to be seen given the impact of coronavirus on clubs’ finances.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already warned against people expecting any major transfer business on the sort of scale that has been witnessed in recent years.

Maouassa would certainly represent the lower end of the financial spectrum when it comes to transfer fees and he boasts the kind of profile that would fit United’s current policy of prioritising youthful signings.

Left-back could be an area which United seek to strengthen following Ashley Young’s departure to Inter during January, which has left Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams currently vying to fill that position.
